The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (Scene 1) Narrator: Once upon a time, there's a young boy named Huck. He is described as inventive and compassionate individual. (Scene 2) Narrator: One day, Huck discovers that his father Pap Finn has returned to town and he's afraid that his father might abuse and stole the money he'd been invested. Pap Finn: Hey Huck, You should stop going to school now or else I'll beat you! Huck: What?! Are you serious? Why would I do that? There's no way I will stop going to school. Pap Finn: You're such a coward and pervert child! You should obey me!! Narrator: Nevertheless, Huck didn't listen to his father and just go away. (Scene 3) Narrator: After the conversation they had, Pap is furious for what his child shown towards him so he planned to kidnap him and brought to Illinois shore. Huck: Father, stop dragging me!! Please!!.. Pap: Your a stubborn and useless kid so I'll teach you a lesson, for you to be better!! Huck: No way!! Why are you doing this to me?!! Pap: Stop yelling! You deserve this so better shut your mouth!!.. (Scene 4) Narrator: After dragging Huck to Illinois shore, he leave and left him alone. After a few minutes, Huck stands up and stumbled when he saw a man just a few meters away to him. Huck: Hey, who are you? What are you doing here?... And why are you all alone? Jim: Oh hi... I'm Jim. I just want to have a fresh air to breath... How about you? Huck: Well, my name's Huck, would you mind if I seat beside you? Jim: Yes you may. Huck: Thanks (Scene 5) Narrator: After a few days of accompanying together, they had been comfortable with each other. Suddenly, they opened up to each other regarding their own lives. Huck: I can’t take it anymore. Pap’s beatings just keep gettin' worse. Jim: You gotta get outta here, Huck. You don’t deserve this life. Huck: And neither do you, Jim. I heard Miss Watson plans to sell you down the river. Jim: That’s why I ran. But I don’t know where to go. Huck: Then let’s run together. We'll take a raft and head down the Mississippi. Maybe we’ll find freedom together. (Scene 6) Narrator: During the flight, they are at peace and that's the time where they encounter several characters, including a band of robbers aboard a wrecked steamboat and two Southern “genteel” families who are involved in a bloody feud. Jim: Ain’t it peaceful out here, Huck? Huck: It’s the first time I feel free—from Pap, from school, from everyone tellin' me what to do. Jim: I’m grateful, Huck. Not everyone would help a runaway slave. Huck: I’m strugglin' though, Jim. Folks say helpin’ you is wrong, but in my heart, I know it's right. (Scene 7) Narrator: The peace and freedom they felt are shattered by the arrival of the duke and the king, who commandeer the raft and force Huck and Jim to stop at various river towns in order to perform confidence scams on the inhabitants. Duke: Ah, good sirs! We are English royalty in distress. King: Indeed. Might we join your humble raft and assist you in... entertainment? Huck: They’re shady, Jim, but maybe they’ll help us avoid trouble. Jim: Trouble is exactly what I see in their eyes, Huck... [Scene 8] Narrator: After meeting the duke and the king, they joined them. They performed scams until the duke and the king pose as English brothers and plot to steal a family’s entire inheritance. Before the duke and the king can complete their plan, the real brothers arrive. In the subsequent confusion, Huck and Jim escape and are soon joined by the duke and the king. HUCK: Jim, they found us again! JIM: I thought we were rid of them! KING: That was a close one, boys! DUKE: Blame those real brothers showin’ up! HUCK (to Jim): They almost stole that money. JIM: Good thing truth came out. HUCK: Let’s get back on the raft — before they try another scam [Scene 9] Narrator: Disappointed at their lack of income, the duke and the king betray them, selling Jim back into slavery. When Huck goes to find Jim, he discovers that Jim is being held captive on Silas and Sally Phelps’ farm. The Phelps think Huck is their visiting nephew, Tom Sawyer, and Huck easily falls into the role of Tom. Sally Phelps: Oh Tom! You’ve returned! Huck: (confused but playing along) Uh, yes ma’am. Good to be back. [Scene 10] Narrator: Tom Sawyer soon arrives and act as his brother Sid. After Huck explains Jim’s captivity, they discuss about their plans. Tom suggests an elaborate plan to free Jim wherein it is based on several of the prison and adventure novels he has read, disregarding Huck's idea. Tom Sawyer: (arriving suddenly) Huck! You're playin’ me again, huh? Huck: Tom! Jim’s captured—we need to get him outta here! Tom Sawyer: I got just the plan. Rope ladders, snakes, fake messages... Huck: Or we could just unlock the door? Tom Sawyer: Where’s the fun in that? [Scene 11] Narrator: When the escape finally takes place, a pursuing farmer shoots Tom in the calf. Jim is again recaptured and taken
