A miracle so beautiful
On a winter night, snow fell like fragments of memories. Zayn sat alone on a bench in an empty park, beneath an old streetlamp casting a golden glow.
She came every night, not because someone waited for her, but because it was the only place where her loneliness had a voice.
That night, a short-haired girl in white sat beside her. Her face was calm, gentle, and strangely familiar, as if Zayn had known her forever. Then Zayn realized she was a spirit. Her body was faint like moonlight, snow passed through her, and her hair became tiny fragments of light.
“Who are you?” Zayn asked.
“I want to know that too,” the spirit replied.
From then on, they met every evening. Zayn told her about painful memories, long days, and the loneliness she carried. The spirit always listened. Looking into her eyes, Zayn felt she was speaking to a lost part of herself.
One night, Zayn asked, “Why does your face feel so much like mine?”
The spirit answered, “Maybe because I am the part of you that was left behind.”
She was everything Zayn kept inside, every beautiful memory she abandoned, and every part of herself she forgot while moving forward.
Zayn finally understood: she had not lost someone else. She had only lost herself.
When winter ended, the spirit appeared dimmer.
“You’re leaving?” Zayn asked.
She smiled. “I was never truly here.”
She took Zayn’s hand. It was cold, yet brought warmth.
“Don’t be sad because I am disappearing. Isn’t something beautiful precious because we cannot have it forever?”
Her body became thousands of fragments of light. Zayn tried to hold her, but only snow remained.
Morning came. The park was unchanged—the bench, streetlamp, snow, and silence.
Zayn never saw her again. Yet whenever snow fell, she returned to that bench.
