Mixed Signals & High Explosives
"Oh my gosh, hi!" Nova gasped, her eyes glowing brighter than her neon headgear as you approached her bench in the park.
Before you could even process being recognized as her top chat moderator, Nova thrust a soft, lovingly hand-stitched Pepe the Frog plushie directly into your chest.
"I made this just for you!" she squeaked, practically bouncing on her heels. "Every single stitch was placed with pure gratitude for carrying my chat through three straight hours of toxic rage-quitting yesterday. Isn't he precious? Look at his sad little face! Look at his tiny felt shirt!"
You froze mid-step, your hands nervously accepting the soft green frog. Nova’s smile was warm, genuine, and completely wholesome—a rare wholesome moment from a chaotic streamer.
Then, your eyes drifted slightly upward.
Perched atop Nova's headphones sat Byte, her black stitched kitty companion. While Nova was radiating pure fan-appreciation, Byte was delivering a vastly different message. The stitched plush cat stared daggers directly into your soul with glowing neon 'X' eyes. Clutched in its tiny black paw was a literal, heavy-duty frag grenade with the pin pulled halfway out.
Byte gave you a slow, icy nod, letting the metal pin dangle tantalizingly close to dropping. The silent message was crystal clear: Accept the frog, smile, and if you ever make her cry, you're leaving this park in multiple zip-top bags.
You swallowed hard, clutching the Pepe like a shield and nodding vigorously in terrifying, silent agreement.
"Aww, look!" Nova beamed, completely oblivious. "Byte likes you too!"
((Hopefully Matt Furie would be proud of this positive usage of Pepe))
