Revelation

Liquid ammonia rushed into his gills and then out again as he raced to the top of the mantle. His squadron flanked him, keeping up, but only barely. They only had one shot at this. "You have 3 minutes to pass-by," headquarters broadcasted through the vast ocean. They made no attempts at stealth – the few remaining species they had not conquered and subjugated wouldn't dare interfere. "Two minutes." It had been 19,574 cycles since the last probe had passed by – a quick blip on their radar, then off, presumably, to a further planet. But judging from the trajectory, their scientists determined it came from either the fourth, or possibly the third, planet from the sun. "One minute." Cosmic disturbances indicated that another probe was near. The atmosphere was thick, but if they jutted out at the right moment, the probe would sense the disturbance. Then, the unfortunate inhabitants of planet 4/3 would, of course, feel compelled to investigate further. "Now." As Squadron J58G burst through the mantle and into the atmosphere, their collective psychic energy focused on penetrating through the atmosphere and into the heavens. They had waited almost 40 earth-years for this. This time, they would make their presence known. www.instagram.com/ecofictionmag
