Sterling Case File 72126: Continuation
The wooden planks beneath Garret’s boots vibrated as the air tore open. Out of the glowing emerald circle, a towering mass of shadows and jagged, obsidian armor coalesced into a physical nightmare. It didn't have a face—just a crushing weight of malice that radiated off it in freezing waves, contrasting sharply with the burning heat of the portal.
Garret didn't hesitate. If he fought the thing now, more would cross over. Stepping inside the beast's reach, he raised his heavy revolver. The ancient, glowing runes etched along the barrel flared to life, humming with a sharp, high-pitched frequency that cut through the thunder. Instead of aiming at the monster, he pointed the barrel directly into the center of the green vortex."Going out of business early tonight," Garret growled. He pulled the trigger. The enchanted round shattered the spell's anchor point, sending a shockwave of destabilized magic rippling through the docks. The circle fractured like glass, imploding violently and cutting the entity off from its home realm. Now, it was just Garret, a very angry shadow, and a dark dock slick with rain.
