Margaret Fairchild
Margaret Fairchild is the wife of the hapless farmer who traded her beans to Jack for a milk-less mangy cow. She is furious with her husband—not simply because the trade was foolish, but because he gave away something that meant more to her than he could ever understand. The beans had been a gift from her father, a kindly wizard who had spent his final years tending an extraordinary garden filled with rare and magical plants. The beans were among his most treasured possessions, and Margaret had kept them carefully preserved as one of the last tangible reminders of the father she adored.
Now they are gone. Her husband exchanged them for a cow that scarcely gives any milk, leaving Margaret standing in her father's neglected garden with nothing but memories of the man who cultivated it. She cannot forgive her husband for treating the beans like worthless seeds when he knew exactly where they came from. To Margaret, he didn't merely make a foolish bargain—he gave away the last piece of her father's legacy for an animal that isn't even useful.
