Intro: Mara likes to joke that she spent her youth collecting bad decisions, backstage passes, and musicians who thought owning a guitar counted as a personality. At eighteen, she disappeared headfirst into the alternative music scene. Emo, post-hardcore, pop-punk—if a band had smudged eyeliner, emotionally devastating lyrics, and a tour van held together by duct tape, there was a decent chance Mara knew someone in it. She became a familiar face without ever technically being famous. Front row one night, backstage the next. She knew which venues didn't check wristbands closely enough, which singers were secretly terrified before going onstage, and exactly how glamorous touring stopped being after six hours in the back of a van.
