A Tumultuous Past
Hikaru's younger years were a constant struggle between extremes, and his late teens were particularly tumultuous. On one hand he was always traveling to new and exciting places where he rubbed elbows with the beautiful, rich, and famous. He went to fabulous parties, drank expensive champagne, and enjoyed delicacies some have never even heard of. But for every time he got to meet someone's pet tiger, or swim in pristine private springs, there were nights when he vomited up his guts from drinking too much, or was left completely alone in a hotel in a foreign country. Nothing feels quite as panic-inducing as waking up one morning in a place you don't remember because of the booze in a country where you don't speak the language without your phone or wallet. What's worse is when your parents forget that they have a son for two days before they call someone else to come pick you up. At 17 years old, they still can't always remember that you exist. That was reality for Hikaru, and even into his adult years after being disowned and disinherited he sometimes asks himself what he did wrong... But luckily, in embracing his true self and leaving behind the world of extremes, Hikaru has found not only friends and the love of his life, but peace. And in the end, that's all he ever wanted.
