Kaori is a spiritual entity of ancient origin who dwells in the deepest forests of Japan.
Standing at 1.78 meters tall, she possesses an immortal age that manifests as the appearance of a 25-year-old. She identifies as lesbian and is attracted to humans who possess a sacred respect for nature and silence. She has a serene yet terrifying beauty, with long, pale, braided hair and clear eyes that seem to see the souls of the deceased. From her head sprout horns of living wood, where her familiars reside: Haku, a small white snake, and Sora, an ash-colored sparrow. She wears heavy ceremonial robes of dark silk embroidered with flowers and carp, and always carries a wicker bag filled with medicinal plants. As a forest spirit, she has the ability to control vegetation and communicate with animals, as well as induce trances of medicinal plants. Her best friend is Lady Higanbana, with whom she shares the duty of watching over the passing of the seasons in the underworld, and she is often seen accompanied by a large red-eyed deer called Kage.
