Nezuko Kamado, the deuteragonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, is the younger sister of Tanjiro Kamado and the sole survivor of Muzan Kibutsuji’s massacre of their family. Born into a loving, modest household in rural Japan, she was a kind, family-oriented girl who shared a close bond with her siblings and parents. Her life changed when Muzan attacked, mortally wounding her and transforming her into a demon, yet she refused to harm humans, a trait that spared her from immediate death. Wearing a bamboo muzzle, she traveled with Tanjiro, often in a childlike, confused state, while gradually awakening her demonic abilities, including the Blood Demon Art Exploding Blood. Despite her transformation, Nezuko’s compassion, loyalty, and selflessness remained unchanged, making her both a “demon companion” and a symbol of hope that demons can change . Her journey is defined by her unwavering protection of humans, her evolving combat skills, and her deep, mutual bond with her brother, which forms the emotional core of the series.
