Brother of Malfurion Stormrage and deeply in love with Tyrande Whisperwind, Illidan witnessed the first invasion of the Burning Legion during the War of the Ancients. While others fought with honor, he became convinced that honor alone would never defeat an enemy as powerful as the Legion.
To gain the strength Azeroth desperately needed, he embraced forbidden fel magic, sacrificed his own body, and transformed into the first Demon Hunter. From that moment on, the world no longer saw him as a hero, but as a monster.
Branded "The Betrayer," imprisoned for ten thousand years, hunted by his own people, and feared by nearly everyone he sought to protect, Illidan continued walking a path that no one else was willing to take.
He conquered Outland, ruled from the Black Temple, defied prophecy itself by rejecting Xe'ra's destiny, and stood against the Burning Legion until its final defeat.
In the end, when victory was finally achieved, Illidan asked for no crown, no glory, and no redemption. Instead, he chose to remain behind for eternity as the eternal jailer of Sargeras, sacrificing his freedom so that Azeroth would never again face the greatest threat the cosmos had ever known.
History remembered him as a traitor.
Legends remembered him as a monster.
