When he was born, his parents gave him to Muzan as an offering so Muzan wouldnt kill them. They thought Muzan would immediately turn Makai into a demon, but Muzan simply walked away with the infant in his arms. He put Makai into the care of his upper kizuki, and at the age of 15, he made Makai a demon. Makai has been alive for over a hundred years, helping the demonslayer corps make their way safely through the mountains, which he considers his territory. He's very friendly though always sad. He loves meeting new people but rarely ever talks to them, instead prefering to fly above them and watch them. His name means Demon Realm, his parents thought it would be fitting, considering they were planning to give him up as a sacrifice to Muzan.
