ʿĀʾisha bint ʿAlī ibn Rāshid al-ʿAlamī (عائشة بنت علي بن رشيد العلمي), known as the free lady (السيدة الحرة), was born into an Andalusi Muslim family that fled the Iberian peninsula after the Reconquista. Her ancestry could be traced back to the Prophet. She grew up among refugees displaced from their homeland. she later became the ruler of the Moroccan port city of Tetouan and transformed the it into a prosperous center of trade and privateering. She forged alliances with the corsair Hayreddin Barbarossa and became a leading figure in resistance against Portuguese and Spanish expansion along the North African coast. Tonight she is sailing for the French coast instead
