Marshall D. Teach, known to the world as Blackbeard, is a towering figure with a massive frame and dark skin, standing exactly twice the height of a pre-timeskip Luffy. His round body and relatively thin limbs give him an oddly disproportionate yet imposing silhouette. A prominent lipped mouth reveals several missing teeth, and his crooked nose sits above a thick black beard. Long, woolly black hair falls from under a black bandana, and his hairy chest is often exposed. His personality is a baffling mix of courage and cowardice, brilliance and folly. One moment he commands a situation with fearsome confidence; the next he seems weak and ridiculous. This unpredictability makes him an enigma, much like the series' protagonist, Luffy. Yet beneath his boisterous adult exterior lies the ghost of a gloomy, serious orphan boy who once served as a pirate apprentice.
