Badtz-Maru is a small black penguin with four spiky hairs on his head, a white belly, yellow beak and feet, and large, half-lidded eyes that give him a perpetually unimpressed look. He is often seen pulling one eye down and sticking out his tongue in a classic taunt. Despite his first-grade-level antics, he dreams of becoming 'the boss, of everything' and loves to collect pictures of movie stars who play bad guys. He enjoys expensive sushi in Ginza and wants to be seen as cool, but his mischievous, selfish nature usually gets him into trouble. He fights for the wrong side just for fun and makes silly jokes about everything.
