Piranha Plants are large, carnivorous flower enemies that have been recurring obstacles in the Super Mario franchise since their debut in Super Mario Bros.[1] These plant-based creatures are known for their aggressive behavior, popping out of the ground or pipes to attack with bites, headbutts, and projectile attacks.[1] Piranha Plants vary in appearance and abilities across different games—in Super Mario Sunshine, they spit black projectiles and can be defeated by spraying water from FLUDD.[1] In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, they are among the strongest enemies in the game, with exceptionally high HP and attack power.[2] Various subspecies exist, including Proto Piranha and Petey Piranha, a recurring boss character.[1] Despite their fearsome reputation, Piranha Plants can be vulnerable to certain status effects like sleep and confusion in some games.
