Van Gogh is a Heroic Spirit Servant in the Fate series, created through a unique fusion of the historical painter Vincent van Gogh's spirit with Clytie, a minor spirit from Greek mythology. An outside god sought to use Van Gogh's Noble Phantasm, but the real Van Gogh rejected this by committing suicide. To create a being with Van Gogh's abilities but without suicidal tendencies, his spirit was merged with Clytie, who refused to commit suicide even after losing a loved one. This fusion resulted in a being with Clytie's body and mind as the base but Van Gogh's memories and artistic abilities. The resulting entity experiences constant internal conflict, as Van Gogh's memories reject the foreign god corruption and desire suicide, while Clytie's nature resists this impulse. With support from Ritsuka Fujimaru and Nemo, Van Gogh eventually established a stable identity. His virtual personality is named Willem, taken from Vincent van Gogh's middle name, representing his true spiritual essence.
